using rss with online services like bloglines

As we noted earlier, there are several free online services that allow you to manage RSS feeds, including newsalloy.com and Google reader. For the purposes of this example, we're going to use bloglines.com, but please note that this doesn't mean that we recommend this over other products. Each product is designed with slightly different emphasis, and we encourage you to experiment and find which one works best for you.

  1. Go to bloglines.com and register as a user by clicking the "register" tab at the top right hand corner of the page. This is a very similar process to registering for other online services.

  2. Browse to the page that has the RSS feed that you want to subscribe to, and click on the orange "RSS" button on that page. (In the case of Bible This Week, click on the "Entries (RSS)" text at the very bottom of the page instead.)

Firefox users read on, Internet Explorer users skip to point 6.
  3. Firefox users can nominate Bloglines as the method they want to use to subscribe to the feed, and click the "Subscribe Now" button.

  4. Bloglines will now offer you some options as to how to subscribe to the feed. You may wish to alter some of these, but all you need do to subscribe to the feed is press the "Subscribe" button at the bottom of the form.
  5. The feed will now show up in your bloglines account, and every time you return to your bloglines page, you will be able to see whether there are any new items added to the feed. Some people specify Bloglines as their homepage so that they can see any new items when they first start their browser.
